AFS Vocational Hub was deeply honoured to welcome Her Excellency, Ambassador Annett Günther, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, on an official visit that underscores the longstanding partnership between Germany and Nigeria in advancing skills development, youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth.
During the visit, Ambassador Günther was warmly received by Mr. Femi Oladosu, Managing Partner of AFS Vocational Hub. She embarked on a guided tour of the Hub’s state-of-the-art training facilities, where she observed ongoing sessions in Solar Photovoltaic Installation, Bread Making, and Digital Fashion Illustration. These training programs are fully funded by the German Government through the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) Programme, Centres for Migration and Development (ZME).
Ambassador Günther also engaged meaningfully with trainees, listening to their inspiring stories and learning firsthand about the transformative impact the training has had on both their personal and professional journeys. These conversations further underscored the value of the partnership in equipping young people with practical, labour market-oriented skills.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Günther stated:
“It is imperative for young people to acquire skills required by the market, both so that they can improve their income and so that businesses find qualified staff. The AFS Vocational Hub does just that and is therefore a valuable contribution to the development of Nigeria’s economy. Germany has an inherent interest in a thriving Nigerian economy, both as a contribution to stability in the region as well as a trading partner. We are therefore proud to be able to support this initiative”.
In response, Mr. Oladosu expressed heartfelt appreciation for Germany’s continued support and commitment:
“This partnership has enabled us to train over 1,000 young Nigerians—creating life-changing opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, and generating employment.”
Since 2018, AFS Vocational Hub has partnered with the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), on behalf of the German Government, to deliver fully funded skills training programs to Nigerian youths, women, vulnerable groups, as well as returned and potential migrants. These programs are tailored to equip participants with in-demand labour market skills across diverse sectors including renewable energy, hospitality, construction, fashion and textiles, and the hair & beauty industry.
Ambassador Günther’s visit marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Germany and Nigeria, reaffirming a shared vision for sustainable economic development through skills training and a commitment to fostering inclusive growth and opportunity for all.
